Recently I moved back into a place of my own with my male cat Parker. I’ve had him since he was just a baby. I always felt bad leaving him home alone when I work my long shifts that can be up to 10 hours long.
Today I decided to go to the SPCA in my town to see if I could find a kitten companion for him. Instead I found a cat that melted my heart.
He was a stray they found about 2 weeks ago. He had a broken tail and very malnourished. They had to amputate his tail and pump him with many different drugs to get him back to good health. (From what I’ve read in his medical history). He had a cone on his head and half of his tail gone when I saw him in the cage. He was so friendly. Licking my hand and nudging my fingers from the other side of the bars.
The volunteers had told me that people would see him and be freaked out by his tail and the chances of someone ever wanting a cat with half a tail was extremely slim. Though I wanted a kitten, knowing this stray cat will never know a good home or know what it was like to be loved made me want to cry.
I love this cat. After only a few hours of having him…I completely adore him.
Next time you want a new pet, always consider adopting. These animals will sometimes never be in a loving home and will live their lives in cages seeing others being adopted, but always wondering “why not me?”.
